Lightning detections come from the NOAA GOES-R Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) Level 2
LCFA product — U.S. government public domain data hosted on AWS. GLM detects optical lightning
flashes from space across the Americas and nearby oceans (not Europe, Africa, or most of Asia).
Detection coverage extends to about 55°N latitude; northern Canada and most of Alaska are not covered.
